Bacabuche: Brand Focus

bacabuche

A brand we love

Words Helen Baron

Understated, beautifully crafted and refined – words that capture the essence of Bacabuche.

The brand’s unusual name is actually a term of endearment. When the founder was a child, her Bolivian grandmother called her “bacabuche”, meaning “little rascal”. Decades later, this sense of gentle familiarity, playfulness and warmth has found its way into the clothing, for which tasteful, modern minimalism is a unifying thread.

Based in LA, the brand specialises in Japanese milled textiles, a neutral colour palette and pared-back, unshowy designs. Simple tank tops and romper suits are so sweetly crafted they even look great hanging in baby’s closet, while the SS18 collection features crossover straps, crushable linens, the most darling kimono gowns and beautiful baby bonnets. Natural, organic materials imbue the pieces with a feeling of calm and comfort, while fuss-free designs make the dressing experience easy for both parent and little one.

It’s alert to modern needs but grounded in all the finest bits of tradition – just like a good grandmother. Bacabuche is a brand we’re backing all the way.
