The Best Kids’ Pyjamas: The Ultimate Guide to Children’s Sleepwear

Style & Shopping

The cosiest kids sleepwear for autumn…

As the evenings get darker and the temperature starts to drop, it’s officially time to swap the summer shorts for long sleeves, dig out the dressing gowns and get excited about a new pair of pyjamas.

This year, my five-year-old daughter and I decided to put some of the best kids’ pyjamas to the test. We’ve been trying different styles to see which ones are actually worth making room for in the bedtime drawer, from super-soft fabrics and roomy fits to the all-important prints that get her seal of approval.

So, after plenty of lounging, jumping around and (occasionally) going to bed on time, here are the kids’ pyjamas that we’ve been loving so far…

POLARN O. PYRET Horses Pyjamas

First impressions: These pyjamas were an instant hit with my five-year-old, largely thanks to the sweet horse print (always helpful when you’re trying to convince a kiddo that its time for bed!).

The playful horse design make these feel a little more special than your average pair of kids’ PJs, while still being practical enough for everyday wear. After testing them with my five-year-old, I loved how well they worked for both bedtime and lazy weekend mornings.

Our verdict: A lovely choice if you’re looking for kids’ pyjamas that combine a fun, child-friendly print with a more understated look. The horse design is cute and stylish, making these a pair I’d happily have on repeat in the bedtime drawer.

Sleepy Doe Clover Pyjamas

First impressions: These were always going to catch my eye – clovers are my lucky symbol and Sleepy Doe is one of my favourite kids sleepwear brands, so I couldn’t resist adding them to our PJ test. And my daughter was just as excited when she saw them. She thought the little clover design was so cute and was very keen to get them on.

I love that they have a playful feel, making them the kind of pyjamas that feel special but are still easy to wear night after night. And there’s something lovely about a little lucky symbol making its way into her bedtime drawer.

Our verdict: A sweet and fun pair of pyjamas that got a definite thumbs-up from my five-year-old. And I love that they are so stylish and made from 100% organic cotton too.

Love To Dream Blush Cherries Pyjamas

First impressions: These are seriously soft and the kind of pyjamas you can see becoming a firm favourite for bedtime. Made from viscose from bamboo, they have a lovely smooth feel, and my five-year-old immediately noticed how comfortable they were.

The fit is slightly looser than some of the other pairs we tested, which my daughter particularly liked. There’s a little more room to move, making them feel relaxed and easy to wear rather than restrictive (especially handy for children who like to wriggle around at bedtime!).

The pretty blush-pink cherry print is another winner, giving them a fun, playful feel.

Our verdict: A great option if comfort is top of your list. These were one of the pairs my daughter was happiest to lounge around in, thanks to their super-soft feel and slightly roomier fit.

My First Years Personalised Traditional Pink Checkered Pyjama Set

First impressions: These were always going to be a winner with my daughter – mainly because they have her name on them in glitter! She was so excited to see it, and I think the personalisation makes these feel so much more special.

The traditional pink check gives them that lovely classic Christmas feel, too, so I can definitely see these being a pair we’d bring out for Christmas Eve. There’s something so lovely about a personalised set becoming part of those little festive traditions. There’s also a less girly blue version.

Our verdict: If you’re looking for a Christmas gift for a little girl, these are a lovely option. The personalised glitter lettering is so gorgeous and my daughter was completely sold as soon as she saw her name.

MORI Fairy Garden Ribbed Pyjamas

First impressions: These are the sort of pyjamas that make you want to get into bed a little earlier. The pretty Fairy Garden print is lovely and girly, and I really like the ribbed finish, it gives them a slightly more special feel.

They’re made from MORI’s signature soft fabric blend of 67% bamboo, 28% organic cotton and 5% elastane, so they have that lovely soft, stretchy feel that makes them really comfortable for sleeping and lounging. The fabric feels gentle against the skin, while the bit of stretch means they’re easy for little ones to move around in. The real test with my five-year-old was whether she actually wanted to put them on though and these got a huge thumbs up!

Our verdict: A pretty and cosy choice for little girls, particularly if you’re looking for something a bit more special than everyday pyjamas. The Fairy Garden print would also make these a lovely gift.

Chelsea Peers Mama & Mini Enchanted Dreams Pyjamas

First impressions: There’s something very cute about matching pyjamas, and these Chelsea Peers sets had my daughter particularly excited because she could match with me. The gingham print feels classic and festive without being too Christmassy, while the little embroidered details give them a lovely, grown-up feel.

Made from organic cotton, they’re soft and comfortable enough for settling down for the evening, but it’s the matching factor that really makes these feel like something special. My daughter loved the idea of us wearing the same PJs – and, if I’m honest, so did I.

I can definitely see these becoming our go-to for a cosy movie night, Christmas Eve or a lazy weekend morning. They’d also make a lovely gift if you’re looking for something a little different to the usual kids’ pyjamas.

Our verdict: A lovely choice for a Mama & Mini moment. The classic gingham makes them feel timeless, while the matching sets add that extra bit of fun. Because sometimes twinning withis the best part of bedtime.

Morning Marvels TENCEL™ Modal Pyjamas

Best for sensitive little sleepers: If your child is particularly aware of how their clothes feel, Morning Marvels are well worth a look. Made from silky-soft TENCEL™ Modal, these pyjamas are incredibly smooth against the skin, with a lovely amount of stretch that makes them feel comfortable without being restrictive.

They’ve clearly been designed with comfort in mind, too. There are no scratchy labels or irritating internal seams, while the trouser legs are designed to stay put rather than riding up during the night. The lightweight, breathable fabric is another bonus, particularly for children who don’t like feeling too warm or constrained in bed.

I also really like the simple pull-on design. The stretchy neckline makes getting dressed and undressed much easier – no wrestling a top over a reluctant head and no fiddly buttons to contend with. It’s the sort of thoughtful detail that can make a surprisingly big difference when you’re trying to encourage little ones to dress themselves.

Our verdict: A brilliant choice if comfort is your priority, particularly for children who can be sensitive to fabrics, seams or labels. The super-soft TENCEL™ Modal and tag-free, seam-conscious design make these a particularly thoughtful option, while the playful prints mean they still feel like fun kids’ pyjamas rather than something purely practical.
