Brides get Pinterest boards. New mums get overwhelmed. Four Mamas wants to change that. Absolutely Mama meets Olivia de Maigret, co-founder of a new platform for antenatal retreats and bespoke fertility and maternity packages. Led by medical experts, Four Mamas focuses on each of the four motherhood stages: Fertility, Pregnancy, Birth, and Postpartum.
Four Mamas co-founders Olivia de Maigret and Morgane Besins came to motherhood via different routes, but both identified the same shortfall in care: while attention is centered on newborns, mothers themselves are too often an afterthought. Having experienced the lack of structured support in their own postpartum journeys, they launched Four Mamas with the aim of addressing that gap. Their ambition is to provide expert-led, practical and emotional support for women navigating the early weeks and months after birth — a time that is as challenging as it is life-changing. Olivia de Maigret on changing the conversation around postpartum care…

Hi Olivia, can you tell us the story behind Four Mamas – how did the idea come about, and what gap were you looking to fill?
In a world where the focus is often solely on the baby, we wanted to put mothers back at the centre of the story! Our mission is to empower women with tools, solutions, and access to a team of experts who can support them at every stage of motherhood.
I kept seeing patients falling through the cracks, unsure of what support was available or where to even start looking. With Four Mamas, we set out to create an ecosystem of care: a one-stop destination to guide women through the very best in maternal health. Every journey is unique, and we’re here to move away from the one-size-fits-all approach by bridging the gaps between NHS and private care, and between medical and holistic support.
How did your own postpartum experience shape the way you approached building the business?
I’m a mother of two, and each postpartum journey was completely different. Both were sacred times that shaped and reshaped me as a person and as a practitioner. I was lucky to have my knowledge as a women’s health osteopath and an incredible network of experts to support me.
That’s exactly why I created Four Mamas: to offer every woman access to that same knowledge and that same “village” we all talk about but rarely find. We want to be that village.

How is Four Mamas helping to change the conversation in the postnatal space?
The conversation around putting mothers first is starting to open up, but there’s still a long way to go in terms of educating the market. Women often spend years planning a wedding, but when it comes to planning their motherhood journey, it’s still not part of the norm.
That’s what we want to change. We believe that an informed journey is an empowered one and that finding your support network shouldn’t happen when you’re already in the thick of postpartum. It should start before you give birth.
You work with a panel of trusted experts- how do you choose them, and what role do they play in the Four Mamas offering?
After more than a decade in practice, one thing is clear: no single practitioner can meet all the needs of every woman. That’s why we’ve built a diverse team of experts to address the wide range of challenges women may face.
We’re very intentional about who we work with. We choose experts who are honest, grounded, and true to their practice, those who share our values of women-centred, guilt-free, empowering care.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a new mum in those early weeks?
There are a few that have stayed with me:
– Trust your instincts.
– Everything is temporary.
– And most importantly: you’ve got this.
What surprised you most about becoming a mama?
It might sound cliché, but I had no idea I could love someone so deeply. That love has brought me a profound sense of compassion and resilience- which, to me, are at the heart of human connection.
What do you do to carve out space for yourself as a mother?
I try to keep a structured weekly rhythm: one workout or movement session (I’ve always been active), and one night out with my friends, they’re my pillars.
My non-negotiable is five minutes every morning for pelvic floor exercises and stretching. My daughter now joins me, and I use my baby as a 10kg weight! I feel incredibly lucky to be self-employed and to love what I do. It fulfills me.
One of the key principles in osteopathy is structure governs function. I try to apply that to my family life, too. It helps keep me grounded and prevents me from being swept away in the chaos.
And finally, what’s next for Four Mamas—any exciting plans you can share?
We’re launching a series of summer events in London to bring together our amazing community of mamas and mums-to-be. Follow us on social media to stay in the loop- we’d love to see you there!
