My Mama Neighbourhood: Windsor, berkshire, with Monica Soni, founder of Tres London

Interviews

Where to go in Berkshire with kids…

Founder of cool, minimalist childrenswear brand Tres London and mama of two Monica Soni shares her favourite family-friendly spots around Windsor and Ascot – from buggy-friendly coffee stops and beautiful parks to special restaurants perfect for a weekend treat. With a love for supporting women-owned businesses and independent brands, her local guide is packed with places that make everyday family life feel that little bit more special. The same ethos runs through Tres London, where each piece (from luxe knitwear to cosy cottons) is made in the UK, supporting local artisans and championing British craftsmanship.

A Favourite Coffee Spot (That Has Enough Space For Buggies)?

We have a few lovely spots in our area, two of which are women-owned. I love supporting other women-led businesses wherever possible, so it’s wonderful to be able to get to know your local spots and support the amazing people behind them. Harpers Windsor is a gorgeous little spot, very cute vibes, buggy-friendly and the coffee is top tier. Don’t skip out on the pastries, they are next level as well. Hedone in Ascot is a firm favourite, another woman-owned small business that I love. Coffee is lovely and they’ve got gorgeous food, all locally-sourced ingredients. The green smoothies and ‘shots of the day’ are delicious. The Winning Post is a lovely spot for a quintessentially British, cosy vibe. It’s a local favourite and a great spot for meeting up with friends for a warm cup of tea on the weekends or for a break between meetings or school pick ups.

A Great Playground Nearby?

We’ve got gorgeous parks and national trusts all around is in Berkshire. My kids particularly love California Country Park and Dinton Pastures, both of which are great for both small children and pre-teens alike. They’ve both got large, lovely playgrounds, plus beautiful, picturesque walking trails. Great for the whole family.

Cool Shops For Little Ones And Grown-Ups?

I’m always on the hunt for independent, unique brands so I tend to shop mostly online, as the local high street shops offer the standard fast fashion fare. We do have a lovely local shop in Sunningdale called Petit Bon Bon, that sells beautiful, luxury childrenswear by independent European brands – my favourite part, is that a portion of their proceeds goes to help support dementia research.

Cultural Places To Go With Kids Nearby?

Virginia Waters and Savill Gardens are stunning national trust parks in the Ascot/Windsor area. We are very lucky to have this beautiful, natural oasis in the middle of Berkshire. The children especially love visiting Savill Gardens during the Spring, when the flowers are in full, glorious bloom.

Family-Friendly Favourite Restaurants?

We have a few lovely pubs in the area, but one of my favourite spots for a lovely bite is Windsor Farm Shop Café, owned and managed by the Crown Estate. We often go as a family on the weekend, after a little morning tennis (often in the freezing cold). The farm shop itself is lovely, with beautiful produce and products from British specialty producers, local artisans and Windsor Farms. The café is bright and inviting, lovely food and coffee, easy and stress-free for families. The Barn at Coworth Park is my go-to for a special treat with friends or family. The grounds are stunning and the food is seasonal British dining at its finest.
