Beloved literary characters will unite with your little ones as they take part in thrilling adventures, allowing imaginations to run wild. A World Inside a Book: Gruffalos, Dragons and Other Creatures transports you into an alternate reality once believed to only exist within the binding of Donaldson and Scheffler’s pages.
In1993 the duo embarked on their partnership which brought about the likes of the The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, The Snail and the Whale and so many more beloved tales. From stage to screen, their award winning picture books have seen a fair share of adaptations.
“It’s always exciting when someone takes our books in a different direction. We’ve had plays and films, and now this imaginative and interactive exhibition. I’ve visited Discover in the past and have seen how enthusiastically children react to it, so I can’t wait for the opening,” says Donaldson.
As a part of the amazing exhibition, Scheffler’s original artwork will be on display in a gallery. You will be amazed as you see his progression in bringing some of the most loved characters to life.
“Over the years I have always been very happy to visit and support the Discover Children’s Story Centre. They do brilliant, important work promoting the joy of books and reading to children in East London. It is an honour to have my partnership with Julia Donaldson showcased in this immersive, interactive way,” the illustrator says.
As you and your child are immersed in these imaginative worlds, you will encounter a scaled down town for children to feel like giants juxtaposed with a humongous cow to feel tiny. Rock hop through the Monkey Puzzle jungle or take your seat on the broom with The Room On The Broom. Walk across the bridge over the sparkly river from Stick Man or visit the dark forest where a full size Gruffalo hides.
This year long programme will featuring exciting visits from including not only The Gruffalo, Stick Man, Zog and The Highway Rat, but also the creators of this creative world. Julia and Axel will visit Discover on Saturday 11 November, and will be available for a book signing!
