Absolutely Mama Editor Carly Glendinning shares all of the best new interiors pieces for little ones that she’s been adding to her daughter’s room…
Storage and wall decor (main image)
This cute little rattan shelf makes the perfect home for special items. A lovely focal point in any nursery, I’m using it to house my daughter’s Maileg collection, and she loves being able to see all of the little mice and select which ones she wants to play with! It would be ideal for little books or wooden toys too. It also has a clever hanging rail at the bottom, so that you can display outfits (although you need to be careful not to hang anything too heavy!). The Aria Shelf is part of a wider rattan furniture collection from CuddleCo, featuring a smaller shelf, baby crib, clothes rail, and changing station. They are all really beautifully made and are the sort of pieces you’ll want to treasure forever and keep passing along.

Play-ready, washable rugs
A rug is a big investment for your little one’s room, so it’s important to think about longevity, durability, and cosiness! I love the idea of choosing a design that’s neutral enough to adapt as your child’s interior scheme changes. Something that could take them from the newborn stage, right through to their pre-teen years. Ruggable a huge collection to choose from and they collaborate with lots of amazing designers – from Morris & Co to Jonathan Adler. The brand’s rugs can be chucked in the washing machine, making them ideal for family living. I updated my daughter’s bedroom with a neutral-toned design and it’s withstood a lot of play so far. We opted for a tufted rug, and it’s lovely quality and really cosy underfoot. Teamed with one of the brand’s non-slip cushioned pads (which sits underneath the rug), my very active daughter can play comfortably even though we have very hard wooden floorboards. It helps to keep her room insulated too. Ruggable gets a huge thumbs up from us!

Centrepiece toys
A timeless doll’s house makes a really beautiful centrepiece in a little one’s room. Le Toy Van make some of the loveliest around and I’m a big fan of their classic Bay Tree House. The first reason I chose this design was the gender-neutral colour palette. I wanted something that could be easily passed along to younger cousins. The neutral tones also work well with the dusky pink walls in my daughter’s room, but would also look great if we change the colour palette to something less girly later on! Bay Tree House is beautifully made and really easy to assemble. The roof cleverly opens up to reveal an attic room, and the front of the house opens to reveal two floors inside. My daughter really wanted a doll’s house with stairs, and this fits the brief. She loves all the little details – from working shutters and door, to the wallpaper inside. Made from sustainable FSC™- certified wood, it’s also decorated in non-toxic water based paints. We’ve already used it for so much imaginative play, and I can really see this doll’s house being a much-loved favourite for many years to come.

Cosy Bedding
Avery Row is one of my all-time favourites for beautifully designed nursery interiors pieces, so I was excited to see the brand’s new ‘Coastline’ collection. Featuring everything from baby play mats to nappy caddies, I chose the single bedding set for my daughter’s room. My daughter is definitely in her pink phase, but the beautiful blue check has freshened up the interior scheme in her room. The duvet and pillow set is cleverly reversible, and features a delicate, sketchy underwater print on the other side. It’s made from 100% organic GOTS cotton sateen, which is super-soft and really comfortable for little ones. It’s washed really well and the quality is amazing. We couldn’t love this bedding set more!

Throws and blankets
Lots of cosy textures make all the difference when you’re styling kids’ rooms. I love layering-up quilts on the bed, princess and the pea style! Painstakingly stitched by hand with individual lines of thread and bound in striped cotton, this Kantha Quilt from Willa and the Bear is destined to become a family heirloom. The brand works with female-led studios, that only use environmentally-friendly dyes. I’m using this quilt on my daughter’s bed, but it would also be perfect as a play mat in a younger little one’s room.

Play tents and reading nooks
A play tent is a lovely addition to a little one’s nursery. This pavilion tent from Kids Concept at Scandiborn has so far been used as a circus high top, Wendy house, grocery store, and reading nook in my daughter’s room. It presents endless possibilities for imaginative play, and mades the perfect cosy hideaway. It’s also been great for playdates (we decked it out in bunting and hosted a pretend festival the other day!), and looks beautiful in any interior scheme. It comes with a handy storage bag, so you can disassemble it and stow it away, or transport it easily.

Standout cushions
I’m always looking for versatile decor for my daughter’s room and this flower cushion from Meri Meri definitely fits the bill. It would work well with lots of different interior themes (from flower fairies to slightly more grown up ‘60s nostalgia) so I’m hoping my daughter will be able to use it as she gets older. Scatter cushions can really bring a nursery scheme together and this gingham design looks really pretty on my daughter’s bed.
