Fancy dress with all of its possibilities for imaginative play is is amazing for children’s development and also for building core childhood memories. Who doesn’t remember rummaging through a dressing up box as a kid, right? Whilst we love home-made costumes, if you’re not handy with a sewing machine (or even a hot glue gun!), then there some really great brands who make beautiful dress-up items for children.

Meri Meri have an amazing range of fancy dress for little ones. This fairy dress with wand and wings has to be one of our all-time favourites. The layered design moves beautifully and can be worn without wings if your little one is pretending to be a princess. It’s perfect for a woodland fairy, flower fairy, or sugar plum fairy though. We’ve teamed it with wings here, but the dress actually has detachable cape-like wings too. Fairy perfection!

Mermaid costume
This mermaid costume from Avery Row is so beautifully made. The brand has a gorgeous range of dress up for little ones, and this is one of our favourites. If you have a Disney-mad little one, this is a great option, and would be perfect for an under the sea-themed party. We love the gorgeous shell-wand, which comes complete with a little pearl. Just magic.
Dinosaur costume
If your little one is into all things prehistoric then look no further than these dino wings and the matching mask from Mimi & Lula. Great for girls or boys, we’ve styled them here with the brand’s heart tutu, but they can be worn with absolutely anything (making them great for kids who don’t want a full costume). The mask on it’s own could double up for a super hero costume too.

There are lots of snow queen dress up costumes out there, but none as pretty as this dress from Rachel Riley. One of the brand’s bestsellers, this dress of dreams has twirl-perfect layers of soft tulle and sparkling net. It goes perfectly with the brands’ button strap slippers – all you need is a crown to complete the outfit. Ideal for princess parties, we love that it can be styled in different ways and worn for non-dress-up occasions too.

We love this gorgeous cape and skirt from Stych Accessories – it would be perfect for butterfly dress up and would work for little super heroes too. We’ve styled here it with an initial bag and tights from the brand, but it could be worn in multiple different ways and would also be great for Halloween! So beautifully made and will get so much wear.
