There are so many options for maternity wedding dresses if you’re tying the knot while you’re in your second or third trimester. Here are some of our favourites
Words Holly Kirkwood
If you’re on the hunt for a maternity wedding dress there are lots of options out there. Of course if you don’t have much of a bump you can just wear a normal wedding dress, but it’s also difficult to know ahead of time what sort of shape you’re going to be, so there are a few things to bear in mind while you’re looking.
Comfort is one – and most of these dresses are cleverly made to adjust, within reason, to your figure as it grows, while the Marchesa gown is for someone who perhaps has a very neat bump, or isn’t very pregnant yet at all.
Classic brands for maternity wedding dresses are Seraphine and Tiffany Rose, and Topshop Bridal will be worth looking at when it launches, but also do look at empire line dresses with plenty of room in shops which don’t specialise in maternity gowns. There are some in very pretty pastels this summer.
For now, we have picked five ideas – three maternity wedding dresses, a great jacket and a non-maternity look which would all make great choices for your wedding this summer.
Long ivory silk maternity wedding dress
£325
This long ivory silk and lace gown is made with pure silk and drapes beautifully over your shape, then sweeps straight to the floor.
A comfortable sweetheart bodice flatters your figure, while the keyhole back shows a little shoulder. The subtle stretch panel to the back and a concealed side zip ensure a flexible fit – so it doesn’t matter exactly what your shape is on the day.
Cap Sleeve Lace Maternity Wedding Dress
£165
This cap sleeve lace number is made in floral lace, laid over a silky ivory under skirt. With a stylish a-line drape for a flattering fit before, during and after pregnancy, the scooped neckline and gently elasticated empire line can be emphasised with a detachable sash.
Maternity ivory cropped peplum jacket
£85
A cropped jacket in ivory, this piece could be a useful addition to your outfit.
Made of soft fabric, the jacket fastens at the front with invisible hook and eyes. An empire line peplum defines your shape, while the round neckline evokes classic Chanel.
Cross-over maternity wedding dress
£149
Tiffany Rose’s best-selling cross over maternity style has now been reinvented as a knee-length bridal gown. Made from heavyweight micro modal, which is light enough but has a heavier drape, it’s soft to the touch and very comfortable to wear.
Marchesa dress from Net-a-Porter
$890
This Marchesa kaftan style gown is crafted from tactile ivory silk-shantung embellished with gold beads, crystals and appliqués for a dramatic, Arabesque feel. It’s not for later on, when you feel like the side of a bus, but for a neat bump it would be a great option for a summer wedding which can also be worn long after you’ve had the baby.
