Two British design houses are producing gorgeous wallpaper designs for nurseries
Words Holly Kirkwood
Founded in 2011 by graphic artists and designers Sarah Comley and Rosie Simmons, Mimi & Mae is one of our favourite brands which showcases the best of British craftsmanship. After working together as freelance graphic designers Rosie and Sarah set up Mimi and Mae (named after their respective daughters) to create their range of bespoke artworks for customers to personalise.
They make wonderful paper-cut style prints in lots of colours, which make excellent presents for new homes, new babies or weddings, and fun typographic prints which can also be personalised.
A newer departure was their hand-drawn block-printed wallpaper designs, and we think they are fantastic. Their dinosaur print features beautifully-illustrated motifs of pre-historic creatures, including the spiked-back stegosaurus, the winged pterodactyl and, most feared of them all, the tyrannosaurus rex. Littles can have hours of fun with the prints, as well as learning more about this fascinating period.
The other design from Mimi & Mae is the woodland fawn wallpaper (above, left), a charming print which comes in dusky pink, grey or a pop of teal.
Crafted in England on the highest-quality coated, non-woven paper, the eco-friendly wall-coverings are expertly printed using water-based inks that create a real depth of colour.

Another British-based designer making gorgeous wallpaper is Sian Zeng. A graduate of Central St Martins, Sian explores the possibilities of cutting-edge technologies alongside traditional techniques to create a storybook collection of wallpapers, and works with interior designers to offer them in a range of colours and patterns.
Her incredible magnetic wallpapers feature beautifully illustrated, whimsical characters including flying pigs, lama riding hedgehogs and quaint cottages.
Littles can play use their imaginations by moving a cast of magnetic creatures and buildings across the wall, adding quotes and stories with our write-on speech bubbles.
But classic dino wallpaper in green (above, right) is our current favourite – we think it would look fantastic for a nursery for a girl or a boy.
