Tried and Tested: Summer Baby Sleeping Bags

Multi Tog Csb

Absolutely Mama tests out the best sleeping bags for your baby this summer...

Baby sleeping bags are considered to be a safer alternative to blankets and conventional bedding. Little ones are unable to kick them off in the night, reducing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. Sleeping bags come in different togs – suitable for different room temperatures.

From breathable organic cotton muslin designs for hot nights, to multi tog sleeping bags that can be used all year round, Carly Glendinning rounds up the best summer sleeping bags in our guide. Scroll down to find the right sleeping bag for your little one..

aden + anais Animal Kingdom Light Sleeping bag

A trusted parenting brand, aden + anais is known for their impressive range of baby muslins and fun prints. Made from the same breathable fabric, this 1.0 tog sleeping bag is designed to help little ones feel secure when they are transitioning from a swaddle.

What we thought…

Firstly, we loved the very sweet (and unisex!) elephant block print on this sleeping bag. The quality of the 100% organic GOTS certified cotton is excellent and it feels very soft for little one’s skin. With a front zip, we found this sleeping bag very easy to put on and my daughter isn’t able to wriggle out of it in the night. The muslin cotton is very breathable, making it one of my top choices for warmer nights. She’s also worn it on slighter cooler nights with long sleeve pyjamas. The inverted bottom zipper makes nighttime changes easy, and it washes just as a muslin would – getting even softer with each use. As it’s so breathable, we’ll definitely be taking this sleeping bag on holiday with us.

MORI Multi Tog Clever Sleeping Bag

MORI is known for their baby sleep products, helping parents and little ones to get the best night possible. Their sleeping bags are made from their signature organic cotton and bamboo fabric, which is super soft on delicate skin.

What we thought…

You can end up spending a lot on baby sleeping bags, especially when the weather is so changeable and you’re not sure which tog you’re going to need. That’s why the MORI Multi Tog Clever Sleeping Bag is so genius – and it’s especially great if your little one is born in between seasons. Innovatively designed, it has removable inner padding so it can be used as a 2.5 tog in the chilly months or a 0.5 tog when it’s warm, keeping your baby snug in changeable room temperatures all year round. Made from organic cotton and bamboo, it’s super soft and my daughter seems very comfortable in it. The fabric is also thermoregulating, keeping your little one at a constant temperature.

This sleeping bag fastens at the shoulders with poppers and has a double directional zip, which we found easy for night changes and to get on. However, my one-year-old does tend to yank the poppers open when she’s awake in the cot in the morning in a bid to escape! The poppers are very secure though and haven’t come undone whilst she’s been sleeping in the night. What is also very clever about the design is that the arm openings can be made smaller or bigger and the length can also be adjusted. All-in-all, we love this sleeping bag and we’re looking forward to getting a lot of use out of it.

Halo SleepSack® Sleeping Bag

Halo is a US brand that’s trusted by 1,700 hospitals in the states. Their super-soft SleepSack® is designed to give the feeling of a blanket, without the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. A summer weight of 0.5 tog, it’s made from chemical-free fabric so it’s gentle on delicate skin.

What we thought…

The light jersey fabric of this sleeping bag is great for the changeable summer weather in the UK. We’ve found it to be the perfect weight for most summer nights, as long as it’s not super hot. The zip goes down the front, making it simple to get on. For night time nappy changes, you can keep your little one’s arms in – just unzip it and move the fabric to the side. The sleeveless arms are also great for ensuring your little one doesn’t overheat. My daughter seemed super comfy in the soft fabric and we also loved the unisex colour of this sleeping bag and the simple design. It also washes very well and is easily folded up to be stored.

Nobodinoz Dreamy Summer Sleeping Bag at Scandiborn

Designed in Barcelona and produced in Europe, Nobodinoz is a sustainable nursery brand making beautiful products for little ones. Their range of baby sleeping bags at Scandiborn is as stylish as you’d expect, and the Dreamy Summer Sleeping Bag features a delicate bird illustration.

What we thought…

Scoring points for both sustainability and style, the Dreamy Summer Sleeping Bag is made from 100% organic cotton and fastens with two pretty bow ties. Some might argue that the ties are a bit fiddly, but we actually found them pretty straight forward to fasten – even during the night. The fabric is lightweight and breathable, but at 1.0 tog and double layered, it might be too warm for really hot nights. It’s perfect for most summer weather though and this sleeping bag is definitely one of our favourites for overall look and quality.

Mama Shack Muslin Baby Sleeping Bag Woodland

Mama Shack started out with a range of baby changing mats, and since then has grown to include other parenting essentials. The brand’s founder Daniella Raffa has a background in print design, and Mama Shack’s collection of baby sleeping bags features her beautiful illustrations.

What we thought…

The sketchy woodland design on this 1.5 tog sleeping bag is gorgeous and would easily fit into any nursery scheme. Made from 100% organic cotton muslin, the fabric is super lightweight and breathable making it perfect for warm nights. It’s easy to get on and with a front zipper, my daughter was secure in it and unable to wriggle out of it in the night. The zip is double ended making nighttime changes easy and it also has a guard to protect little one’s skin. It washes well and rolls up easily, so we’ll be taking it on holiday with us!

Willa and the Bear Feather Weight Sleeping Bag

A mama-run brand, Willa and the Bear are known for their beautiful hand-finished nursery and parenting essentials. As seen in their sleeping bag range, their fabrics are block printed by hand by artisans and cooperatives in India and Nepal.

What we thought…

A very pretty design, this sleeping bag has a Peter Pan collar that can be embroidered with your little one’s initials for a special touch. It’s made from a quadruple layer of 100% cotton muslin fabric and we loved how it has a different print on the inside to the one on the outside. It fastens at the shoulders and completely unzips and whilst we found this easy for nighttime changes, my very strong one-year-old has discovered that she can yank it off when she stands up in the cot in the morning. The poppers are secure though, so it hasn’t been a problem at all during the night. The ‘featherweight’ is great for summer weather, but as it’s quadruple layered it might be a little warm for really hot nights. All in all, we love this sleeping bag – it’s beautifully made and has washed really well.
