Ekatot, a new London-based start-up, is bringing authentic Finnish baby boxes to the UK. You can store baby’s clothes and toys – or even baby themselves!
Ekatot Boxes
The company was founded by husband and wife Laura Peltola and Andy Moulds. Laura, a Finn who grew up in the UK, slept in a box as a baby. Similarly thirty years on, daughter Frida’s first bed was a cardboard box which arrived jam-packed with goodies. Overwhelmed by the positive response from friends and family – plus the major media coverage around the baby box gifted to a certain Prince George – Ekatot was born to bring the Finnish experience to Britain.
In Finnish ‘Eka’ means ‘first’, which captures the essence of the box. It provides the baby’s first bed, clothes, toy, book and toothbrush, as well as many other essentials for mother and child. The clothes range in size from newborn to 12 months so they can be enjoyed throughout the child’s first year. All clothes are high quality, fun and gender neutral, produced by Finnish and Nordic designers which have been carefully chosen to suit the British climate.
These boxes provide the ideal starter kit for new and expectant parents, and enable little ones to always sleep in the same room as mum and dad.
Finland’s baby boxes are credited in helping achieve the country’s low infant mortality rates. The Ekatot box supports a safe and happy beginning to life by combining practicality and a touch of Scandi style, while helping to share truly unique Finnish culture and values.
