Best children’s fashion brand: Blade & Rose’s Frankie Lion and Maura Mouse

Blade & Rose

Blade & Rose is a leading British children’s fashion brand, instantly recognisable for its iconic and unique signature leggings, with fun and quirky designs on the bottom! The company was founded by Amanda Peffer, in 2010, whilst on maternity leave and is named after her two children, Blade and Rose.

The inspiration behind the original Blade & Rose signature leggings design came from Amanda constantly pulling down her crawling 3-month-old daughter’s dresses to cover her bottom. This, coupled with a distinct lack of interesting legging designs on the market at the time, created a lightbulb moment for Amanda… Why not embrace the beautiful bottom sticking out and design a fun range of leggings around this concept?!

A major component of the development was to not only ensure the designs were eye-catching and interesting, but that the quality of the fabric was durable, functional, would wash well and most importantly, that it was soft and kind to children’s delicate skin. The initial range was met with roaring success and quickly sold out, establishing a dedicated fanbase among children and parents alike!

Since then, Blade & Rose has gone from strength to strength, hugely expanding its product range to include matching long and short sleeved tops, hoodies, sweaters, rompers, hats, jumpers, socks, booties, first walker leather shoes, colour-changing wellies, sunglasses and a range of colour changing raincoats, rucksacks and matching lunchboxes made from recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles.

Blade & Rose consistently strive to create colourful and original designs children will fall in love with, offering a huge array of friendly characters and fun themes to suit every personality, including a timeless Peter Rabbit™ collection and a WWF GOTS certified organic cotton collection, with 10% of the sale price donated to the charity to help support animal populations and habitats.

Made from recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles, with a high waterproof rating of +5,000mm, enabling all day outdoor play in moderate to heavy rain. For added peace of mind, the splash suits feature heat sealed seams, a waterproof front-facing zip for easy changes, elasticated wrist and ankle cuffs, and an elasticated hood with a peaked cap.

Blade & Rose is a dynamic children’s fashion brand, regularly creating wonderful new designs and product lines to light up little faces! The range is made with high-quality fabric that is durable, functional, washes well and is soft and kind to children’s delicate skin. With accessible prices starting at just £3.50 for socks, to £40 for the colour changing raincoat, Blade & Rose offer excellent quality products and creative designs without the hefty price tag.

Ethical and respectful business practice is at the core of Blade & Rose’s values. Blade & Rose have worked with the same factories since they started in 2010. They have always worked closely with them, visiting regularly, and consider their relationship vital. All the factories they work with – in the UK, India and China – have BSCI certificates, demonstrating they are treating workers ethically and legally.

Blade & Rose are always seeking new ways to lessen their environmental impact. Not only have they recently released a range of products using recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles, but they also use Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) cottons. BCI is a global not for profit organisation and the largest cotton sustainability program in the world. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sectors future.

They also use Oeko-Tex certified fabrics. Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex is one of the best-known labels for textiles testing. In plain language, you can be sure that clothing that has Oeko Tex 100 certification is safe for babies and children and that harmful chemicals and substances are not present in the fabric used.
