Glamping at Leeds Castle

Hero Leeds

Absolutely visits Leeds Castle for a glamping adventure with the whole family.

The Castle

Listed in the Domesday Book, this castle has lived many lives. Firstly as a  Norman stronghold, then a royal residence, and finally a royal palace. Its situation is stunning, set on two islands in a vast lake and surrounded by luxurious gardens. The fully furnished rooms come in either modern or Tudor style, each with outstanding attention to detail.

The Food

Castle View Restaurant is a converted 17th-century barn with a terrace. Tables can be reserved for dinner and offer unrivaled views of the castle lit at night. The menu features daily specials which showcase the head chef’s creative flair. It’s an intimate affair – good-quality, simple food, prepared well and presented immaculately. Children are welcome throughout the evening – they offer a full children’s menu, meaning there’s no curfew for dining en-famille.

Glamping

Staying overnight in this dramatic setting; strolling around the castle grounds, and enjoying the gardens when the estate is closed to the general public makes for an exclusive vibe. The medieval-style canvas tents are stylish and luxurious; think four-poster beds and crisp cotton sheets. Generous outside dining space and barbecue facilities with fire pits add a sense of adventure for the little ones. A choice of breakfast delivered in a hamper, meaning the children ate well and they were ready for the day ahead. With excellent facilities and plenty of room, this felt a world away from a generic camping trip.

What To Do

The grounds are bursting with exciting activities and surprises, so both children and adults feel entertained. For us, the highlights were the maze, falconry, boat, and train rides. The extensive grounds mean that there is plenty of space for further exploration. Take to the water in a punt around the moat. You will get an astounding close-up view of parts of the castle unseen from land, and your guide will provide you with all the history you need to know.

One night’s glamping is £150 for two adults. Children are £25 per child, per night.
