M SPA at M by Montcalm Hotel, EC1
M-Spa is the tranquil new hot-spot for City slickers in and around Silicon Roundabout. It specialises in evening away worries, knots and wrinkles – and if, like me, you happen to be pregnant, there’s a Mum-to-Be massage on the treatment menu too.
After popping on disposable knickers (akin to those so famously sported by Bridget Jones), I was ready for a blissful 80 minutes of pure indulgence. Cue a pregnancy scrub involving scrumptious-smelling blackcurrant seeds and Himalayan salt crystals (only the best for bump); this, my friends, is the secret to super-soft skin. After showering off the blackish-purple slather, I’m smooth as a baby’s bottom and ready for my therapist to get stuck in, kneading out all the unwanted muscle tension that’s been building these last few weeks. A heavenly mixture of argan oil, geranium, rosehip and lavender lulls me into a zen state.
Admittedly, having my exposed bump rubbed was a novel, if not quite odd, experience, but at a time in my life where my body does feel somewhat alien, I was able to let go and feel calm and relaxed. A dip in the Versace-tiled pool afterwards was the icing on the cake. Now I can’t wait to return for some post-birth pampering.
