My Mama Neighbourhood: Belgravia with Pepa González, founder of Pepa London

Interviews

What to do with kids in Belgravia…

Originally from southern Spain, Pepa González first arrived in London with plans to work for the Andalusian tourist board, but soon found herself captivated by British sartorial heritage, a spark that would ignite her career in childrenwear. After launching her brand Pepa London in 2016, she eventually opened a flagship store in Elizabeth Street in Belgravia, making the pretty corner of London her creative home.

Here, between Georgian facades and elegant windows, Pepa draws inspiration from local history for her signature slow‑fashion ethos: hand‑smocking, Liberty prints, sailor collars, and timeless tailoring that honor tradition while feeling fresh and playful. This gentle, beautiful street reflects her brand’s values: a quiet, confident elegance, a love of detail, and garments built to be passed down.

Beyond working here, Elizabeth Street is where Pepa finds daily rhythms of motherhood and creative reflection. Strolls with her son Matthew past chic boutiques and flower boxes spark ideas for new collections; the community’s peaceful pace offers the perfect backdrop for thoughtful design. Below, she shares her favourite Belgravia mama spots – from children’s book shops, to family-friendly restaurants.

A favourite coffee spot (that has enough space for buggies)?

I love TomTom on Elizabeth Street. The space outside is perfect for buggies, and you get the most beautiful view of the street, especially with Bayley & Sage just opposite and their gorgeous flower displays spilling out onto the pavement. It feels like such a peaceful little pocket of Belgravia!

A great playground nearby?

Belgrave Square Garden is a real gem in the heart of Belgravia. It’s beautifully maintained and has a lovely play area with a climbing frame and swings – perfect for little ones to enjoy. The garden itself is peaceful and spacious, with plenty of room for children to run around safely.

Cool shops for little ones and grown-ups?

John Sandoe Books is a charming independent bookshop on Blacklands Terrace, perfect for both adults and children. They offer a carefully curated selection of children’s picture books, early readers, and beautifully illustrated classics, with knowledgeable staff who love helping find the perfect read. It’s a lovely place to discover new stories and revisit favourites.

Cultural places to go with kids nearby?

The Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace is a must-see; little ones are always enchanted by the royal carriages and horses. It ties in so nicely with our recent collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces – there’s so much inspiration to be found in British heritage.

Family-friendly favourite restaurants?

We love Wild by Tart, it’s stylish and relaxed with a great children’s menu and plenty of space for families.
