From pregnancy and breastfeeding-safe ingredients, to products that target nappy rash and stretch marks, here are the beauty buys for mamas and babies that are on our bathroom shelves right now…

Best for: a good baby bedtime routine

Mother and baby skincare brand Little Butterfly London is one of our favourites for pampering products for mamas and little ones. Made with gentle, organic ingredients, their products are suitable for highly sensitive, irritation-prone newborn skin, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding mamas.

From the brand’s baby range, we have used the Love Eternal Baby Massage Oil and the baby body wash, Bubbles in the Breeze Top to Toe Wash, as part of our baby bathtime and bedtime routine. Winding down before bed with a massage and a bath can help to promote a good night’s sleep for little ones. We also love the brand’s new Wrapped in Love Calming Anti Pollution Face Cream. It smells delicious and is really effective on irritated baby skin.

Weleda

Best for: newborn baby’s skin

Weleda‘s Calendula Nappy Change Cream is recommended by midwives with very good reason. This rich cream contains skin-friendly lanolin and zinc oxide to provide a protective barrier against excessive moisture. Almond Oil, organic calendula and chamomile also soothe irritation caused by nappy rash.

It’s also very good on grown-up skin too. One of the originals and also one of the best.

Best for: mama stretch marks

Bloom & Blossom has launched a new stretch mark cream named Elastic Fantastic. With 99% naturally derived ingredients, it can be used pre and post-baby. We found the cream to be super rich and nourishing, which is perfect for parched pregnancy and postpartum skin.

Horsetail Leaf extract helps to fight stretch marks and wrinkles and is also good for c-section scarring. Chlorella extract targets skin damage and restores collagen and organic shea butter re-hydrates. Slather it everywhere as your bump gets bigger and after your little one has arrived too.

Best for: pregnancy and postpartum hair

Few hair-care products are specifically targeted at pregnant and postpartum mums, and the new WeTwo range from Kelly Simpkin is one of the best ranges we’ve tried. Made using naturally effective ingredients, Simpkin worked with leading professionals, including renowned Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Miss Clare Mellon MBCHB MRCOG CCST, to ensure each product would be completely safe for breastfeeding and pregnant women as well as being truly beneficial.

We’ve been using the post pregnancy shampoo and conditioner for several months. Fragranced with pure essential oils, the scents make you feel like you’re showering in a spa – not to be underestimated on days when you’re struggling after a sleepless night, or suffering from a low mood. Our hair is also in great condition after using these products and feels less dry and brittle and much more full.

Best for: pregnancy and postpartum pampering

MUTHA™ is the brainchild of former model, entrepreneur, TV host and producer, author, and mama-of-four Hope Smith. Also a licensed esthetician and certified doula, Smith launched MUTHA™ from her kitchen table in 2015 whilst pregnant with her first child. The range is made using natural and organic ingredients and there’s a product to target every stage of womanhood.

We love the Up All Night Eye Cream, which helps brighten the eye area and target dark circles. With a silky consistency, skin feels fresher and plumper after use. The brand’s hero product, MUTHA™ Body Butter, is also particularly good. It’s made using 100% natural origin ingredients and delivers great hydration without being heavy. With super-cool branding and packaging, MUTHA™ also looks pretty good on your bathroom shelf.

Best for: natural ingredients

Green People‘s Nordic Roots range is made using the best quality natural ingredients, which have been sustainably sourced from across Scandinavia and certified COSMOS Natural by EcoCert. Suitable for very sensitive skin, the range is safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding and free from nasties including artificial fragrance, ethyl alcohol, parabens, and SLS.

The Marine Facial oil is brilliant for tired postpartum skin. Made with Atlantic seaweed, it helps to boost collagen supplies and makes your skin feel plumper and fresher. We love that the packaging is eco-friendly too.

Best for: pre birth preparation

So Kind‘s Pregnancy Skin Kit would make a great gift for any mama-to-be. Containing four pampering, bump-friendly products, it has everything you need to relax and nourish pregnancy skin. ‘Blissful Moments’ belly sheet masks soothe a growing bump (whilst giving you an excuse to take 10 minutes out). The ‘Silky Essential’ body lotion delivers hydration. ‘Love Lines’ is a rich and easily absorbed balm to help target stretch marks. And one for post-birth, ‘Pure Kindness’ comes to the aid of dry, cracked nipples. All of the Danish brand’s products are vegan and free from nasties too.
