Pelvic Floor Muscles: Time for a squeeze

We find three high-tech solutions that promise stronger pelvic floor muscles in no time at all

Words Katy Gillett

Kegels are a mum’s best friend. A weaker pelvic floor is something many of us deal with after pregnancy and childbirth. And urinary incontinence is common among us expecting and new mamas. While older generations may have simply accepted this as a fact of life, we’re trying to change all that with high-tech devices that’ll help us keep up those Kegels, gain bladder control, tighten pelvic floor muscles, gain confidence, and even have better sex. Here are three very different options, for very different budgets…

Neen Aquaflex

Physicians and physiotherapists designed the Aquaflex to strengthen reflexes and tone your pelvic floor muscles. It gives you two vaginal cones and a set of weights to help with those Kegel exercises. You place the weights in the cone, insert it (there are cords to help you remove it), and then your pelvic floor muscles will naturally contract around it. If you use it for 20 minutes a day, the brand claims you should see results within 12 weeks.

Intimina KegelSmart

The KegelSmart has been well received so far, and claims to double the strength of your pelvic floor within 12 weeks. It all takes just five minutes, preferably daily, to have a complete workout. The device slips inside and gently vibrates to indicate the moment you should contract. It automatically determines the duration and rhythm according to your level of strength – there are five levels and each one has its own routine. All of this immediate feedback will ensure you reach your goals and stay motivated to do it every day.

vSculpt

First-time mum and high-tech beauty exec Colette Courtion came up with the vSculpt, along with the help of obstetricians and gynecologists, as well as more than 2,300 women. It took three years to develop, but now this device, which combines light energy with thermal heat and sonic vibration, helps women gain control of their bladder and improve the health of their pelvic floor. All within 10 minutes a day over the course of six to eight weeks.
