Trotters has opened just seconds away from its old Kensington location, and it promises to be even bigger and better..
Words: Holly Kirkwood
The family-owned Kensington shop Trotters is known worldwide for its traditional childrenswear and eclectic gift selection. Founded in 1990 by Sophie Mirman and Richard Ross, their new shop has opened only moments away from High Street Kensington tube.
All the hallmarks of Trotters are present and correct in the new space: with trained hairdressers, qualified shoe fitters and helpful sales staff all on site it’s always a fun place to pop in, with or without the littles.
All Trotters’ clothing is designed in England and made in Europe using the finest quality fabrics, fastenings, and details. The SS17 clothes collection includes smocked Liberty print dresses, ‘Jemima’ duck appliqué tops, and brightly-coloured nautical clothing featuring sailing boats, anchors, and vintage speedboats. The English theme continues with gingham, and guardsmen as recurrent motifs.
As if this wasn’t enough, an aptly named ‘Jolly Trotter’ pirate ship installation has been installed in celebration of the much-loved character Peter Pan, who famously visited Wendy in her Kensington townhouse. An impressive aquarium has also been reintroduced beside the famous Trotters hairdresser, and during the opening weeks Dunwoody, the life-sized Trotters pig, will make frequent appearances at the new store to delight young customers, so it’s certainly worth popping by soon.
