Her passion for eco-friendly living has recently seen her become the face and brand champion for the sustainable nappy brand Pura.

Absolutely Mama’s Editor Carly Glendinning met Rumer Willis to talk about how her approach to sustainability has changed since becoming a mother…

Hi Rumer, thank you so much for chatting with us. Lou is so super cute! How are things now that she’s a toddler?

Lou is just the most amazing little human. She’s so curious and full of wonder—it’s such a joy to see the world through her eyes. Toddlerhood comes with its own set of challenges, but every moment with her feels like a gift. She’s growing so quickly, and every day feels like a new adventure.

Has becoming a mother changed your perspective on eco-conscious living and the environment?

Absolutely. Having Lou has made me more aware of the legacy we’re leaving behind for our children. It’s not just about the here and now anymore; it’s about creating a better, cleaner world for her and future generations. I’ve started to rethink many of my choices, from the products we use at home to the habits we’re building in our household.

What made you want to partner with Pura, and what do you love about the brand?

Partnering with Pura felt so natural because their values align so closely with mine. I love that Pura is committed to creating sustainable, high-quality products that are safe for both our little ones and the planet. It’s reassuring to know that the products I’m using for Lou are not only gentle on her but also kind to the environment.

As a busy parent, how do you balance convenience with a commitment to sustainability?

It’s a balance, but I’ve found that investing in sustainable options often pays off in the long run. I try to prioritize quality over quantity and find products that work for our lifestyle while also being eco-friendly. Pura is a great example of that—they make it easy to make good choices without sacrificing convenience.

Have you made any sustainable changes at home since having Lou?

Yes, we’ve made quite a few changes. We’ve switched to reusable items whenever possible, like cloth napkins and stainless-steel water bottles. I’ve also become more conscious about reducing waste and buying sustainable toys and clothes for Lou. It’s been a gradual process, but every small step adds up.

What are some of the things you love most about being a mama?

There’s so much to love—it’s hard to choose just one thing! I think what I cherish most is the unconditional love and bond we share. Watching Lou discover the world, learning to communicate, and seeing her personality blossom is incredibly fulfilling. She has taught me so much about patience, presence, and the beauty of simple moments.

Are there any lessons from your own childhood that you’ve brought into your parenting?

Definitely. My parents taught me the importance of being present and creating a loving, supportive environment, and that’s something I strive to do for Lou every day. I also value the creativity and freedom my parents encouraged, and I want to nurture that same sense of exploration and individuality in her.

And finally, what is the one thing you really want to teach Lou as she’s growing up?

I want Lou to know that she’s enough just as she is. Confidence, kindness, and resilience are values I hope to instill in her. More than anything, I want her to grow up feeling empowered to be her authentic self and to know that she can make a positive impact in the world.

With thanks to Rumer Willis and Pura.
